A Merchant presents a lamp for sale and launches into a tale. Jafar, the Royal Vizier of Agrabah, a fictional city by the Jordan River, and his parrot, Lago are searching for a lamp hidden deep in the Cave of Wonders. They learn only the, Diamond in the Rough, can enter, a title Jafar later realizes belongs to Aladdin, a Street Smart young man from Agrabah. Meanwhile, Princess Jasmine, frustrated by a law forcing her to marry a Prince instead of her true love, slips out of the palace and meets Aladdin and his monkey, Abu. Soon after, Palace Guards seize Aladdin on Jafar’s orders. When Jasmine confronts Jafar demanding Aladdin’s freedom, he deceives her, claiming Aladdin has been Executed.
