2002 TONKA BULL-DOZER, #1, MINT IN THE PACKAGE!!!
Tonka began as Mound Metalcraft, a Gardening Tools Company in 1946 in Mound, Minnesota. Lynn Everett Baker, Avery F. Crounse and Alvin F. Tesch created the company in an old School House. They decided to make toys that were as strong and durable as Gardening Tools that children could play with in the Garden.
The company began selling Metal Toys, which soon became the primary business. The logo was based on a University of Minnesota Drafting student’s sketch, Donald B. Olson, who later became the company’s Chief Industrial Engineer. Finally, the name for the toys used is the Dakota Sioux word “Tanka” which means Big or Strong.
