Told in the first person, it follows Juan, Johnny, Rico, a young man of Filipino Descent, through his service in the Mobile Infantry. He rises from Recruit to Officer amid an interstellar war between Humans and an Alien Species called the Arachnids, or The Bugs. Woven into the main plot are classroom scenes where Rico and others debate philosophical and moral topics like Suffrage, Civic Virtue, Juvenile Delinquency and War!!!
